Ironstone Pre Mixed Natural Hydraulic Lime Mortar NHL 3.5
A professional grade premixed natural hydraulic lime plaster with a coarse texture and contemporary white finish for basecoats or float coats or as a textured finish topcoat. Manufactured in partnership with Heidelberg Materials Socli.
Description
The Ironstone range of Dry Premixed Natural Hydraulic Lime Mortars have been manufactured in partnership with Heidelberg Materials using their high-performance NHL 3.5 binders and carefully selected kiln dried sands.
The Ironstone mortars are natural and highly workable, combining long term durability with breathability for building and re-pointing. The range has been developed to ensure a traditional heritage finish and is available in a range of 12 colours with various aggregate sizes as specified - just add water.
The sands are prewashed to remove sediment before being dried and the result is a very workable mortar with reduced risk of shrinkage.
Ironstone premixed mortars are batch blended for consistency and naturally coloured from a range of sands to give the desired finish and texture.

Coverage
A 25kg bag will yield approx. 14 litres of mortar sufficient to repoint 3-5m2. Repointing: 20kg/m² stonework; 7kg/m² brickwork.
Preparation
Before repointing remove all dust and loose material from joints. Dampen the area to be repointed first to help curing.
Application
Mixing can take place in a tub or mixer. If you don't require the full amount of mortar, just take out what's required and seal the remaining in a tub or bag. Use between 4-5 litres of clean water per 25kg or approx. 2 litres per 12kg Tub.
Add the water slowly, using just enough to achieve a workable mix. Lime mortars benefit from being left for 15 mins to fatten after mixing and can be reworked for up to 4 hours. To ensure good compaction and adhesion the mortar can be tampered firmly with a bristle brush as it starts to firm up, normally after 2-4 hours, this process also brings the sharp aggregate to the surface creating a lovely textured finish.
